What do we write about?

In a word: Arabic. In more than a word, our content touches upon several distinct aspects of Arabic language and Arab culture that will often overlap. Below is an explanation of the content you can expect to find on the armchair arabist.

Additionally, all posts are tagged with the appropriate keywords that can be seen in the tags section on the homepage.

Our topics:
  • Arabic Language Learning. Many of the posts on the armchair arabist touch on topics related to learning Arabic as a second language. These range from tips and strategies for things like learning vocabulary, discussions of common errors and challenges faced by English speakers learning Arabic, and attempts to contextualize and explain complex features of Arabic grammar and syntax to simplify and ease their mastery. Posts in this category also include reviews and discussions of Arabic language learning resources and methods.
  • Teaching Arabic to your Children. Now that we are parents, we have more than two years of experience raising our kids to speak Arabic. Because neither of us are native Arabic speakers, this seemed like an insurmountable goal. Fortunately, though, we are having success! Now, we regularly feature content that shares our experiences with you and provides resources to help you in your own Arabic-language parenting journey.
  • Translation. We regularly feature translations and studies of historical Arabic-language texts and Islamic texts to further contextualize the Muslim world's history and culture.
  • Arabic Language Resources. Under the Arabic Resources tab on the homepage, you will find a list of books, websites and useful we consider useful for Arabic language learners.
